Shane McEntee, the winning candidate in the Meath By-Election, understands the county and the needs of its many communities. Her was re-elected to Dáil Éireann in May, 2007 and is Deputy Spokesperson on Transport with Special Responsibility for Road Safety.

He wants to bring a new face and a fresh approach to politics to ensure Meath gets the opportunities it deserves.

Shane and his family are involved in numerous voluntary organisations, particularly the GAA, and he has trained numerous football teams over the last 20 years, including Meath minors, and has had success at county level on six occasions.

The 48 year-old married father of three, born and based in Nobber, owns and runs 'Dee Local' Bar and is joint owner of "The Works"Restaurant. He is a former farmer and agricultural sales representative, and a Fine Gael member since the age of 15.

In Shane's 10-point plan for Meath he has pledged to work to ensure:
  • The completion of the M3 as soon as possible
  • The provision of a rail link to Navan and park and ride facilities
  • An end to the chronic under-funding of Navan Hospital
  • The provision of IDA jobs for Meath
  • Advancement of educational projects in the county
  • Re-opening of rural Garda stations
  • Proper planning and development
  • The provision of more recycling facilities
  • The provision of more community and sporting facilities
  • Investment in water and sewerage infrastructure


Shane believes in the value of community. He knows that all politics is local, but is aware that Fianna Fáil has failed the communities of Meath. He has pledged to prioritise the following issues.

DUNSHAUGHLIN ELECTORAL AREA:

Ending traffic chaos and commuter misery
Ensuring a greater Garda presence, especially at night
Proper planning and development
The provision of adequate recycling facilities
Tax credits on vouched child care expenses


EAST MEATH ELECTORAL AREA:

Provision of the Slane By-Pass and better road and rail infrastructure
A fairer fare structure for East Meath rail users
Provision of a new national school in the Laytown/Bettystown area
Provision of a park and ride facility in Slane
Provision of recreational facilities throughout East Meath


KELLS ELECTORAL AREA:

A new town centre for Kells
Provision of industrial jobs in North Meath
Secure existing Health Board jobs in Kells
Special tax designation for industry on the N52
The provision of quality, accessible health care in North Meath


NAVAN ELECTORAL AREA:

Ending Navan's job deficit and traffic crisis through the provision of infrastructure, including the M3
Ensuring the provision of a Navan-Dublin rail link
Capital investment in Navan Hospital and the provision of a purpose built Accident and Emergency Department
The ending of temporary accommodation at primary schools
The provision of a new second-level school in the Navan area
